Swim Lessons

Last summer we did swim lessons first thing in the morning and I really liked it... this year, we couldn't because Sadie still had school the first two days of swim lessons.  We did them at 4 and it worked out well.  This was the first year that all 3 kids were in lessons... which meant a nice break for this momma!
They took lessons at our YMCA--I think they do a fabulous job!  The kids were all in different sections this year.  Each section has 4 kids max with 1 or 2 teachers so they get a lot of one-on-one.  I also like that the lessons are inside so we don't have to worry about weather or temp.  They did 2 weeks of lessons Mon-Thurs.  All 3 kids made good progress.
Sadie continues to advance after each session of lessons.  She can swim an entire length of the pool--front and back stroke.  She is working on her side stroke and beginning the breaststroke.  She is also beginning to learn rhythmic breathing.  She has expressed interest in checking out the swim team... we shall see!
Kinnick has been swimming on his own since last summer.  He is getting good at putting his face in while he is swimming.  He is pretty fearless... working on endurance.  Hopefully lots of swimming this summer will help!
Macey was SO excited for her first chance to take swimming lessons.  I was a bit hesitant about enrolling her in the beginner class because I didn't want to spend money for her to play and blow bubbles... however, I was very impressed.  Those little girls (her class was 4 girls!) were swimming (with float belts) the entire time.  They also practiced each day without their float belts.  Macey is not quite swimming on her own yet, but she LOVES the water and she's so close.  Hopefully lots of swimming will help her too!
Getting the kids to lessons on time was the easy part... The exhausting part for me was getting them showered, dried, and dressed each day after lessons.  The good part--not baths at home for several days--we did them at the Y!
To celebrate our last day of swim lessons and the kids' hard work, we went out for donuts (and blueberry iced tea for me!)...
