Last summer some friends of ours told us about this blueberry/Christmas tree farm that isn't too far from Streator. The lady said they go every summer and pick blueberries and she freezes alot. I thought this sounded like fun and we LOVE blueberries, so I made it a goal to go this summer.
Last week we made the trip to Tammen Treeberry Farm. We invited our friends Megan & Emma to go along. Emma is just a few months older than Sadie. We took Kinnick to the babysitter's and made it a girl's day. When we got there, we were a bit overwhelmed b/c it was really a parking lot, just a lot cars parking wherever they could find a space. I was surprised at how many people were there... We got our buckets first. There were lots of workers making sure everyone knew where to go. They told us to start in a new row and that we had to walk all the way to the end--that was an adventure! It was a bit like trekking through the jungle. The girls were able to walk under most of the branches... after at least 5 minutes, we could see the light on the other side! We determined that there had to be an easier way back when we were done!
The girls got into picking right away--they did better than I anticipated! I hoped to fill up our whole bucket (12-15 lbs.) at first, but soon realized that wouldn't happen. We made it almost half way and Sadie ate at least a couple lbs. herself! She LOVED picking them and eating them. She also liked carrying the bucket around and talking to the people around us. It was a very fun experience and I'm sure we will go back again!
Sadie started out picking them and putting them right into her mouth. Every once in awhile she would throw some in the bucket. By the end, she sat down beside the bucket and started eating the blueberries I was picking!

Grace loved the pictures. That really looks like fun. So do they charge you for the ones you eat while you pick?
