Bath Time Fun

Spring Break

I love Fridays.  I especially love walking home from school on Friday after we pick Sadie up.  I love when Marc walks in the door on a Friday evening.  I love being all together and I love knowing that the whole weekend is in front of us.  Sometimes we have plans, sometimes we don't.  I love knowing that we can stay up late, snuggle and watch movies, go for walks or bike rides, sleep in, read lots, make and eat meals together, play in the back yard... I just really love spending time with my family.  Spring break is like that... x 10!

We enjoyed our spring break... play dates, trips to the library, baking cookies, swimming (indoors) with friends, hosting some high school youth group girls, and a trip to Grandpa & Grandma's to celebrate the girls' birthdays.  I love spring break!

Hearts at Home

March 14-15:  I love going to Hearts at Home every year!  I always leave feeling refreshed and encouraged to be the best mom I can be.  I also come home feeling so grateful for the amazing family God has blessed me with.  This year was no different!  This year's theme was "Love your Life".  I missed going with my regular crew of college girlfriends but I had a blast going with my MOPS group.  We drove down Friday night and enjoyed dinner together.
Dinner with my some lovely ladies!

What They Remember

I'll just go on record now saying:  I really don't like this picture of myself,  but I like what it represents... Every day moments, taking time to be with my kids, doing the things they love to do.  I recently spent 1 1/2 hours... 90 MINUTES... in a row, uninterrupted, helping Kinnick build a lego Ninja Turtle lair and a turtle racer and Fishface boat.  (Fishface is a ninja turtle villain who has the head of a fish AND shoots fish out of his face, in case you were wondering.)  When we were finished, as we sat admiring our work, Kinnick looked at me and said "Mom, this is the funnest thing we've ever done together."

That single statement caused lots of reflection and brought up lots of emotion on my part.  Of course I was happy that I took time to do something so  important to him.  I was also sad as I wondered how many days was I "too busy" to do things with my kids that they love.  How many times am I missing a chance to engage in something that they will really remember?  Special outings and trips are fun and they no doubt create fond memories for my children, but how often am I missing what is really important to them?  The little moments that are right in front of my face...

Some things that my children have said to me:
  • "Remember when we played in the rain and I put a worm on my head?"  -Kinnick
  • "I loved when you let us have sword fights with those really big loaves of bread!"  -Macey (Outside, of course and with really stale bread leftover from Marc's club spaghetti dinner!)
  • "I love when you lay in bed and read with me."  -Sadie
  • "Mom, it's so fun when you jump on the trampoline with us."  -Kinnick
  • "Can we PLEASE put the tent in the back yard to sleep in it?"  -Macey
  • "Mom can you sit down beside me and pretend you are my teacher while I do my homework?"  -Sadie  (She even calls me Mrs. Gorsch!)
  • Just this weekend we asked the kids what their favorite part of our weekend trip was, their response:  "Building sandcastles in the back yard with Liam..."
Of course trips to the zoo, going to the movies, playing at the waterpark, and going out for McDonalds are fun.  I just want to make sure that I don't get too wrapped up in society's idea of a good time that I miss out on every day opportunities to enjoy our little moments in time.

Basketball

Kinnick participated in a youth basketball league for about 8 weeks Jan--March.  They typically had basketball twice a week (practice or game), usually on week day evenings or Saturday mornings.  There were 2 teams in his age division so they played each other for every game.  Kinnick's team was 5-6 year olds but he was the only one who was not yet in Kindergarten.  Marc coached his team and we had fun going to watch his games.  It turned out that 5 of the 6 boys on K's team all had moms in my MOPS group.  It was a great experience for Kinnick!

February 28:  We had planned to take a trip to my parents the last weekend in February to celebrate the girls' birthdays.  I had made a Barbie cake for Macey (and Sadie was decorating her own cake).  We had to postpone our trip due to the weather... the cake was already finished, so we enjoyed eating barbie cake (with ice cream of course)!
