We were LOVING the summer Olympics at the Gorsch house! I was a little bummed leading up to the Olympics because we don't have cable and I wasn't expecting to get to watch much (or any) but Marc was able to purchase a digital antennae the week before and it works really well to pick up many local channels.
The kids were able to participate in an "Olympics" themed story hour at the library the week of the opening ceremony. That peeked their interest! We planned a fun family night to watch the opening ceremony. We made pizzas and snuggled on the couch to watch. Kinnick and Macey both went to bed during the parade of nations. We let Sadie stay up... she was such a trooper and so into watching all the performances. She was awake as they ran the torch into the stadium, minutes later as they were ready to light the big torch I turned to say "Isn't this so cool?" to see Sadie fast asleep!
We enjoyed tuning in at all different times of the day to see what sports were happening. Our favorites were gymnastics and swimming. Sadie adored watching the gymnastics competition and fell in love with Gabby Douglas. She even went to tumbling and told her teacher about different things that "Gabby" could do (talking as if they were best buds!)
It was also fun listening to and watching the kids as they held their own Olympic events. One day at breakfast we asked the kids what event they would like to compete in. Sadie answered right away with gymnastics (of course). She also said that they would have to have baby events for Macey to be in the Olympics. Kinnick (after careful consideration) told us he would like to be a Muppet in the Olympics! Another time I heard the kids arguing about how many Olympic medals they had each won. Apparently, Sadie raked in 8 medals. Kinnick ended up with 5 and Macey won 2 medals in the "baby Olympics".
I'm quite certain that none of my children will end up competing in the Olympics, but it is fun to dream with them. I am so excited to support them through whatever God has in store for their lives!
