Mommy-Kid Camp Out

June 27-28, 2016: The highlight of summer... MOMMY-KID CAMPING TRIP!!!! This was our second annual momtribe camping trip and it did not disappoint. Us moms know how to throw up some tents, feed kids A LOT of food, and have some big fun! We switched up our camping spot a bit--this year we camped at Warren Dunes in Michigan. We rolled out on a Monday morning, set up camp, and hit the beach. We spent the afternoon playing, soaking in the sun, and exploring the creek. Unfortunately we had an accident on a "mud slide" that ended in a broken leg and one family leaving early. Huge bummer, but we're kind of used to some form of crazy all the time--when you roll with 40+ kids injuries are bound to happen. One thing I loved about my afternoon is that my big kids were all entertained with friends (and lots of mamma eyes keeping watch) so I got to enjoy some one-on-one time with my little. We took things at a slower pace and did what he wanted to do while we explored. We took a break back to our camp ground for dinner--hot dogs roasted over the fire with lots of chips and some fruit & veggies. After dinner it as back to the beach where we enjoyed a little game of mom vs. kid wiffle ball. We played until dark then did a quick clean & change so we could enjoy our s'mores. The kids stayed up late telling ghost stories and we got to hang out and just be together... pretty amazing.

The next day was cooler and we enjoyed a fire to keep us warm while we ate breakfast. Decked out in our hoodies we took on the sand dunes. Climbing them when it is cooler is great because the sand doesn't burn your feet! It was too cold for swimming so climbing was a perfect activity. A few of the girls went blueberry picking in the afternoon and stayed for a 2nd night, but for my first time camping with a 2-year old, one night was enough. We headed home late morning.
